Lifeguard

General Job Description
  • Monitors swimmer safety and enforces pool rules under the supervision of the Pool Director or Deck Manager.

  • Maintains cleanliness of the pool area and restrooms, logs chemical checks, and addresses patron concerns.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Safety & Surveillance:  Continuously monitors swimmers to prevent accidents and is prepared to respond to emergencies.

  • Check-In & Rules: Verifies membership and enforces guest limits.

  • Water Quality: Performs chemical tests every two hours (or as directed) and records data on the pool’s chemical board.

  • Patron Interaction: Greets members, answers questions, and politely addresses any rule infractions.

  • Cleanliness: Keeps the pool deck, restrooms, and office tidy and well-stocked.

  • Incident Reporting: Completes Incident Reports for any injuries or rule violations and escalates issues as needed.

Minimum Training & Experience
  • Must be 15 or older (per Code of Virginia ยง 40.1-100 (B)(2)).

  • Holds a current Lifeguard certification (Red Cross or equivalent), plus CPR/AED/First Aid.

  • Attend all training/orientation sessions.


Deck Manager

General Job Description
  • Oversees Forest Lakes Pool operation.

  • Schedules and supervises lifeguards, manages facility usage, oversees supply orders, and responds to incidents.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Staff Management: Responsible for hiring, training, and scheduling lifeguards.

  • Facility Oversight: Ensures the pool, bathrooms, pavilion, and office areas are clean and safe.

  • Chemical/Equipment: Oversees water quality checks and manages pool equipment maintenance.

  • Administrative: Processes timesheets/payroll with Brownstone, handles membership and guest-related issues, enforces policies, and approves pavilion rentals.

  • Emergency: Handles major incidents and escalates when necessary; maintains accurate incident documentation.

Qualifications

  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of water chemistry, filtration systems, local health codes, and basic maintenance.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written abilities; capable of training and motivating staff, addressing patron concerns, and resolving conflicts diplomatically.

  • Experience: Prior supervisory or management experience.

Certification: Current Lifeguard Certification and Pool Operator Certification (e.g., CPO or AFO) [Preferred].
